stash report July 11, 2021 from Making A Lather

Look what I found at goodwill this week. I found a bag of scraps - be still my heart. I liked the colors and it looked like the pieces were decent size. I am taking stuff to goodwill in the BIG cleanup of summer 2021, but, then, I have to look inside......

shirt sandwiches from Making A Lather

I made shirt strings a while back aiming for a string x quilt for leftover pieces of shirts. This weekend I spent some time cutting fabric for the sides.

It is fun to think that there are no two alike. I didn't use a foundation. I just sewed strips into bigger pieces and trimmed to the size I wanted. I used 3 1/2 x 10 1/2.

I cut the strips 1 1/2 x 10 1/2. I am making a 7 x 9 setting.

This project is one step closer, but, not part of my goal ...

shirt strings from Making A Lather

What do you do when making a block makes more small scraps?

Start a new quilt. I randomly sewed small pieces and strings together to make slabs of shirt fabric. I really didn't have a plan.. yet

Then, I remembered Bonnie Hunter's free string x pattern, and a version that I liked the colors. I started cutting my slabs into 3 1/2 x 10 1/2 rectangles.

I am on my way to using up all my bits and pieces... LOL that's a joke, of course.  I won't even see a dent. I am really ...

wonky blocks from Making A Lather

I started these blocks in January from a scrap bundle and an idea I saw on the internet. I worked on them for awhile and then, it came time to decide on a setting and how many I would need. This is where it stalled. At first, I thought I would just make as many blocks as I had scraps, but it is impossible to ever use all the scraps. They just kept reproducing. I stopped at 40, and, tried a few arrangements.

I liked on point the best, but, needed one more block for 41.
Now to sew them ...

scrap bag 2 from Making A Lather

Last week, I worked on cutting a bag of scraps that I had found, I planned to make a crown of thorns - wedding ring quilt. I chose this pattern because it took a large quantity of matching pieces. When I work with scraps, most of the pieces are too small for matching. I have them all cut in groups of 4 squares and 12 hsts. I haven't cut the neutrals, yet.

The best part, was discovering there was enough of the piece to cut the smaller 2 inch hsts too. I didn't plan to use them in this ...

scrap bag from Making A Lather

Sometimes, after cataract surgery, the eye will still make a film at the back of the new lens. I am one of those. I had the first cataract surgery last fall, and another in January. By now, my eyes had healed well enough, that, I could have a lazer treatment of the membrane behind the lens. I did one last week and one yesterday. There is nothing to it except the fear of the unknown. It was quick and painless, but the eye is dilated for most of the day and that is funky.

One of my favorite purchases at ...
